We're Here

We are  very buzy and very tired.  We miss all of you so much. When
Mom read our first E-mails this morning before breakfast, she cried.
Just the MTC experience alone is a very valuable thing...seeing the army of
the church's best and feeling the attending spirit...The spirit... that is
what I wish you could feel.

From the moment of
looking back on our
family from the security lines at the airport at almost the last moment
of visibility and hearing the shout of "Hurrah for Israel," we have
been so blessed by His spirit.

Now the funny news.  when we landed in SLC we found our luggage
very difficult to handle.  One suitcase was lost so Mom waited at the
luggage merry-go-round while I went to rent the car.  The errant suitcase
was found.  We strapped the 3 little "carry-ons" on top of 3 of the four
50 lb. suitcases but that made them very top heavy. They would fall
over backwards.  I had 4 and Janet had 3 bags but it happened Mom got
the one with heavy books on the top.

Now negotiating two big trailing suitcases through the crowds was less
easy and "two wide" takes a big swath. They wouldn't fit side by side
on the moving horizontal hallways.  Then came the escalator...one suitcase
behind the other.  I was in front.

Midway up Mom's suitcase toppled over backwards.  She tried to save it
but with the upward motion of the conveyance the force pulled her over
backwards on top of her 3 bags.  The big pile was going up, with Mother
on top . . .feet first!

I couldn't get to the pile because if I let go my 4 would fall back onto the
pile.  Finally an alarm sounded and the escalator stopped.  Two security men
came running..  The one on the top hollered for the one at the bottom
to "Help her!" but the bottom security guard couldn't get to her because
the scared Asian with big eyes and his luggage were in the way.  Finally
Mom was uprighted.  Then several urgent phone calls came in:
"Is she OK?"  "Is there any blood?" " Do we need an ambulance?"
Next one superior, and then another would call and again
ask the same questions.

Finally it was decided that they could restart the esacalator.  Remember
the man from China?  He still hadn't got to the top.  The airport officials
could not get the thing started so we had to carry our bags, 75 pounds in
each hand, up the frozen escalator, one step at a time 'til we reached the top.

"free at lasat, free at last! thank God Almighty [we're] free at last!!!

it was good to read something to lift my spirits as I pictured moms bloomered legs wailing as her head was stuck in the snow . . . oh wait - wrong story - (but it does sound kinda similar) plus dad would be standing above unable to do anything because of the luggage, but certainly he was secretly glad for that because his cheeks got so red and he doesnt really know what to do - a little embarrassed and shy of all the attention. dont get me wrong, dad would certainly have been the knight in shining armor despite all this, but its kinda funny to imagine. and then to see Mom so embarrassed afterward that she couldnt stop the giggle. Now itssomething to look back on and laugh a little because all turned out ok in the end - right?
